Propane tanks are complex with many parts and pieces. When you are having a tank built, installed or transported, be sure to check your tank to make sure all parts are in place and working. Every part on a tank has a purpose with safety and protection in mind.
Propane Tanks Standards
Propane tanks come in a variety of sizes and are manufactured by different companies. All tank manufacturers are required to adhere to the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) rules for construction of propane pressure vessels for use within the United States. These standards are enforced at the national, state, and local levels ensuring all applicable codes and regulations are adhered to for safety and protection.
Basic Propane Tank Requirements
Items to look for on propane tanks that are easily seen without having to know the technicalities of propane tanks include a manufacturer’s nameplate, reflective paint color, regulator that is covered and protected or pointed down and make sure the tank is placed above the soil on level. Be sure to check all valves and gauges for proper working order and placement. These include the fill valve, relief valve, service valve, fixed liquid level gauge, float gauge, vapor return valve, and liquid withdrawl valve. If you suspect any part to be missing or not working properly, contact a professional company for an inspection.
